From Lisa:
My name is Lisa Merrick and I'm 29yo.  I'm married and have 2 1/2 yo son named Jerod.  We live in a small town in central Iowa.  I'm an at home Mom first and foremost.  I also work part-time on a horse farm, moderate the Iowa forum on AllOutdoors, moderate the Women in the Outdoors and Bows & Arrows forum on FullStrut and am an Administrator for H.I.S. talk forums.

I've been fishing, camping and horseback riding since I was young, but my family consists of non hunters, so I got a late start.

Because of my husband, I'm a hunting fanatic.  I got tired of being left at home, so I started tagging along on hunts and skeet shooting.  I loved it.  After a couple years, I received my hunter safety certificate and decided to give hunting a try.

My first hunt was for ducks (my favorite) and when I dropped my first duck, a bluewing teal, I was hooked.  I now knew what the fuss was all about.  After waterfowl, I enjoy pheasant and turkey hunting.  This will be my 6th year for waterfowl and pheasant and is my second year for turkey.

My husband was a traditional hunter for many years before the military and a previous marriage took away from that.  After a 15 year layoff, he started back up with a compound in '99.  He got his first compound bowkill buck that same year.  He hunted spring turkey with his compound (no luck) and will hunt fall white-tails with either the compound or recurve.

Once again, I had to try it.  I got my first bow for Christmas last year, a Martin Jaguar.  I practice as much as I can indoors and outdoors (I shoot in the yard while my son is napping).  My plan was to try spring turkey, but it didn't work out for me this year.  Then for Valentine's Day we got each other matching Bear Grizzly recurves.  It took awhile to get used to, but once I got the jist of things, it got easier.  They are so much fun to shoot.

Now, we've taken up bowfishing.  What a fun sport.  We're using our compounds now, but I'm looking for recurves we can use (the Grizzly's we have just don't have a heavy enough draw weight).  Our son, Jerod, goes with us when we bowfish during the week.  He has a great time, too!

I also fletch and crest my own arrows.  Gives them a more personal touch, I think.

As you can see, I'm not really a bowhunter, but I'm working on it.  I also don't hunt deer, but that may change.  I just might get the "fever" for that this fall.
