My
name is Kami Cochran, I am the editor of the Lone Star Bowhunters Association
magazine. I have been hunting for 8 years now. Six years ago
I decided that I didn’t want to be left at home anymore while my husband
was shooting 3D or just bonding with the guys at the bowshop, so I showed
interest in getting a bow. My husband was joyful that I was interested
and bought me my very own, top of the line, bow. I practiced and
shot 3D and was starting to get fair at archery.
I went to a hunting show where they had a pop up 3D course that you could win prizes. Lo and behold, I won first prize which was a ram hunt with a shoulder mount. The ram was my first animal to harvest and I have been hooked ever since. Since then I have harvested a few deer, hogs, a bear, and most recently a fallow buck. I think it is important to women to stick together in the sport of archery, I see the numbers of women growing in the sport constantly, and it makes me so proud. These women are such strong, loving, intelligent, and kind hearted women. I am honored by this nomination and acceptance, especially after reading Rhonda’s story and the other women’s stories. To be placed among these women is truly an inspiration to me. I am a stay at home Mom, I homeschool our 7 year old son, Collin. I work for my husband’s construction company, I am team Mom for my son’s football league, I am on the football association board, I teach a co-op class on Mondays, and I am the editor of the Lone Star Bowhunters Association magazine, which is a Texas based, non-profit organization who fight for the rights of bowhunters. I fully believe in donating your time and to get involved with what you believe in. I am proud to say that my husband and I have passed on our bowhunting heritage to our son, Collin, who just harvested his first rabbit. In 1999 Collin was 3rd in the LSBA Regional Championships. I was too proud to speak. I am sure I will have more moments like that in our future, I sure hope so. May your arrows fly true,
